Arts and music played a major role in the medieval religious life and, towards the end of the Middle Ages. Accappella singing was an essential part of churches services. Monks and priests chanted the divine offices and the mass daily. Some churches had instruments which consisted of organs and bells. The organistrum or symphony was also found in churches. The organistrum required two people to play. One to turn the crank and, the other to play the keys.

Music was often played during holidays and special parties. During weddings and birthdays, the music was more uplifting. For weddings and on Valentine's Day, lovers' music was played to ensure a romantic atmosphere. This type of music was called "chivaree." Many of Medieval music instrument was played, which includes, recorders, horns, trumpets, whistles, bells, and drums. During Christmas, the sound of bells brought the good news of Jesus birth to the audience.

Medieval drama wasnt introduced to the medieval towns until the eleventh centuty. Some of the topics were frm the Old Testaments and, others were stories about the birth and death of Christ. These dramas were performed with costumes and musical instruments and first took place outside teh church. Later they were staged in marketplaces, where they were produced by local guilds.
